I was given animal taming skills for training as a Ranger for the second profession. I went and took training for a mesmer and lost those Ranger skills. Is there any way to get them back? I just learned that pets could be changed and named and lost the skills before I could do so.

When you get the opportunity to change your secondary profession, change it back to Ranger and you will have the skills. It sounds like you're playing prophecies so you will be able to change your profession:

In the desert, after ascension.

If your still in PreSearing and haven't permanently taken Mesmer as your secondary profession - yhou can always decide to take Ranger as your permanent secondary profession when you get the choice.. which will give you back your pet and ranger skills.

I believe you can talk to the same npc you initially got the ranger skills from to switch back to having ranger skills.. assuming you haven't decided on a secondary profession already.
